Sectional Interest Groups and Public Interest Groups: The sectional interest groups represent a particular section or group of society. They seek to promote the interests of a particular section or group of societies e.g. trade unions, business associations and professional bodies. In general sense, their principal concern well-being of their members, not the whole society. Sometimes these organisations represent common or general interest instead of representing the interest of one section of society. FEDECOR, is one such example, which is a Bolivian organisation.
The public interest groups promote public or common interest rather than selective good. They aim to help groups other than their own members. For example, a group fighting against bonded labour or child labour fights not for itself, but for those who are suffering. Sometimes the members of a public interest group may undertake activity that benefits them as well as others.
For example, BAMCEF (Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation) is an organisation largely made up of government employees who campaign against caste discrimination. It fights for the problems of its members who are victimised by caste discrimination. But its main concern is with social justice and social equality for the entire society.
